The legs fold totally flat so can be stored under a bed, behind a sofa or neatly to the side of a cupboard, and comes with a retractable hook, meaning you could even hang it up on the door of a tall cupboard.

Any downsides? If you’ve got a lot of work shirts to iron, this can feel a little cramped. Being 31cm in width means you have to iron in smaller sections than you might be used to but it’s perfectly do-able, and given the space you’ll save on storing the board, we think this is a great pick for a smaller ironing board.

Although not the cheapest ironing board on our list, this ironing board is strong and will last and last if taken care of. Although the weight of this board is 19lbs, it feel sturdy.

The rotating function makes it easy to use in the tiniest spaces and the fold away feature of the board means it can be fitted into a regular cupboard.

If kitchen space is too limited to keep it, this board will fit neatly into wardrobe space.

Any downsides? The cover is a little thiner than I’d have liked, but this doesn’t seem to affect the finished garment.

This ironing board is literally a mini version of a regular ironing board, so perfect if you’ve not got a huge amount of ironing to do, just the occasional item.

The legs are the regular height, it’s only the board that’s smaller, and although it does feel a bit like there’s not enough surface space, it’s fine for ironing occasionally.

Although small, this mini ironing board is sturdy enough not to fall over whilst you’re ironing or move when you iron something. The padding is nice and thick so you get a good finish, and it fold up flat ready to be stored in your wardrobe or in a narrow gap.

Any downsides? There’s no iron holder on the end of the board! This took a bit of getting used to and means you have to have somewhere hard to put the iron down beside where you’re ironing, but this is a small forfeit for having a mini ironing board that fits away neatly and out of sight!

The priciest of our top picks, this fold away ironing board makes our list because of the great way it’s fitted onto the wall, and can be out anywhere at all.

It’s sturdy and feels like it’ll take a good amount of ironing pressure, and is super easy to pull out and put away again after you’ve done your ironing!

Downsides? The cover is a little on the thin side which I’ve noticed with several of these smaller ironing boards, but certainly not enough to affect the finished ironing.

This is a great priced wall mounted ironing board, it’s sturdy, easy to fit and is a decent size for a small board.

Perfect for a craft or sewing room as well as for regular ironing, this board can be mounted to whatever height you like, so if ironing sitting down is easier for you, just fit it to the height you like.

The width is good for everything except sheets and bed covers, and although the length is a little shorter than usual, it’s reasonable given the space you’re able to save.

Downsides? Not with the ironing board itself, but you might want to consider using your own wall fittings. Although the board is easy to fit, the instructions weren’t the most understandable we’ve seen, but it’s easy enough to figure out!

How do you store an ironing board in a small space?

If you’ve opted for a small ironing board that’s wall mounted, you can out your board anywhere that there’s space to pull it down as and when you need it. The beauty of these is that they can go over a table, or over anything really, and then fold up and away again as soon as you’re finished ironing.

On the other hand, if you’ve got a smaller ironing board that’s not fitted, there’s a few option when it comes to putting it away and storing it until you need it again.

If you want the board out of sight totally, think about putting it away under your bed, or under the sofa. Other places you could store your board when not in use is the inside door of your wardrobe, on the back of a door, down the side if your washing machine or dryer or in a narrow space beside a fridge or a freezer.

As these boards are smaller than traditional ironing boards, it’s usually quite easy to find somewhere to keep it, and of course the more often you use it, the easier it needs to be to access it.

What is the standard size for a small ironing board?

Small ironing boards are considered to be small when their anything less than a traditional ironing board, which is usually 15 inches by about 54inches.

Smaller ironing boards don’t have such a specific size, and are more down to the brand and manufacturer.

The small ironing boards that are wall mounted tent to be slightly bigger than the table top boards, being in the region of between 35-39 inches, so a fair bit shorter than a traditional sized board.
