If you’ve got a smaller ironing board than the traditional size, finding a new cover when it comes to replacing the old one isn’t generally as easy as walking into a shop and picking one up.
Although the space saving benefits of having a smaller board are great, you might want a little extra padding on your board cover, or just a cover with a new lease of life!

Although this board is made and sold for Minky brand small ironing boards, the elasticated fit mean you can use it on most other brands.
The length is on the shorter side, so better suited for specific table top ironing boards, but can definitely be used on other types, such as wall mounted boards, just make sure you measure the length first before ordering to make sure it’s going to be long enough.
The thickness of the cover isn’t the best we’ve tried out, but for such a low price, this cover more than does the job, is washable and provides a good, tight fit for small boards.

This board is good for slightly “bigger” small ironing boards, due to it’s length. There is a tension strap making it possible to make smaller, and the width fits most smaller boards perfectly.
The cover is nice and soft, and this cover comes with clips as some of the others do, so if it’s a little baggy you can use the clips to tighten it around your board.

This cover is smaller than some of the others so if you’ve got a really tiny board, this could be the cover you need.
It’s fitted by drawstring which can be a touch fiddly to fit, but once you’ve managed to do it, it gives a good fit to a small board.
The cover itself is on the thin side, so we found it was better to leave the old cover underneath giving it a double layer, this gave a better ironing finish and padded it out a bit more.
It’s super cheap, so if you need something that’ll do the job, this is a good choice. The quality is fine, not perfect, but as an cover for an ironing board, at this price, you can’t ask for much more!
What sizes do ironing board covers come in?
Ironing boards come in all sizes, from the sleeve boards you can use for your work shirts, up to extra large boards for serious, maybe professional, ironers!
It’s for this reason that people sometimes have trouble getting an ironing board to fit well.
You want your cover to have a nice snug fit and not wrinkle and move around as you’re ironing, so before ordering any new cover, make sure you’re buying the size nearest to your board as lots of covers tend to come in various sizes.
What do you put under an ironing board cover?
If your new cover feels too thin, many people leave their old cover on and put the new one over the top. This is a good way of padding out a thinner cover.
There are however, other ways you can make your cover thicker. You can buy wadding or liners for ironing board covers, and of course by doing this, you can make your cover as thick as you need it to. You can also use liners to make a slightly baggy board fit better to the board you have.
